DISTILL THE PRACTICE - THE BREATH
You might be worried that if you don't practice yoga in a certain way or can't manage certain poses you won't get the benefits of yoga. This isn't true. When you distill something down to its base, you are left with the most potent part. In yoga, it all boils down to our breath.

 

IT ONLY WORKS IF YOU DO THE WORK - THE PRACTICE
Yoga is called a practice for a reason. Even the most experienced yoga practioners wouldn't claim they have "mastered" yoga. We are all constantly learning. In yogic philosophy, there are two governing principles - abhyasa, a constant practice, and vairagya, non attachment, which in this case means leaving behind any expectations of the outcome when you practice yoga.

When you finally accomplish this, you will find the mind becomes quiet, which is ultimately the goal behind yoga.

"Yoga chitta vritti nirodhah" - Patanjali's Yoga Sutras 1:2

"Yoga is the  restraint of the modifications of the mind"


DON'T FORCE, COMPETE OR CONDEMN - THE SHAPES

Translation - do what you can and accept it. Do not compete with yourself or the people around you. Do not criticise yourself when you realise you can't do something today. Instead practice kindness towards yourself and the people around you. Maybe you will do it tomorrow, or maybe the next day........


EVEN THE SIMPLEST POSES BECOME ADVANCED WHEN HELD - THE STRENGTH

The longer you hold a posture, the more determination you need to stay and not react to the sensations bubbling up inside of you. This is known as stirra sukkha, in yogic philosophy - to stay with the intensity of the posture but balance this with openness and ease.

RELAX YOUR FACE....FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE - LET GO

So simple and so true. Slowly relax your face and feel it filter through your body.
